WWE Backlash match card, full list of fights

Just weeks removed from the chaos of WrestleMania 42, tensions across WWE continue to boil over as rivalries grow even more personal and storylines remain unfinished.

That momentum now shifts to Tampa Bay, Florida, where the Benchmark International Arena will host WWE Backlash, the annual post-WrestleMania event that launched in 1999.

While only two championships are currently scheduled to be defended, WWE fans know cards can change in an instant, especially when emotions are still running high after WrestleMania season.

Backlash also arrives at a pivotal moment for WWE and TKO from a business standpoint, as both companies continue to face criticism surrounding shortened match times at WrestleMania 42 and the increased commercial breaks tied to the company’s new media partnerships.

Match Card

Trick Williams (C) vs. Sammi Zayn (Men’s United States Title Match)

One rivalry headed toward its final chapter, United States Champion Trick Williams defends his title against Sami Zayn in one of Backlash’s featured opening bouts, airing live on ESPN2.

The bad blood between Williams and Zayn has only escalated in recent weeks after Zayn hit rapper Lil Yachty with a Helluva Kick and interrupted the mock funeral held for Williams’ mascot, “Gingy.”

Now, with the United States Championship still at stake, the two stars are set to collide once again in what is expected to be the final matchup of their heated rivalry.

Bron Breakker vs. Seth Rollins

While some rivalries may be nearing their conclusion, the war between Bron Breakker and Seth Rollins feels like it is only beginning to heat up.

Breakker recently reignited tensions with his former mentor, now positioning himself as the leader of The Vision stable and one of WWE’s fastest-rising stars.

With Backlash serving as another major stage, Breakker will look to prove not only to Rollins but to the entire WWE locker room that he represents the future of the industry.

The matchup could also carry an added layer of unpredictability, as rumors continue to swirl around a possible return for Bronson Reed, who has been sidelined since February with a torn bicep.

Asuka vs. IYO SKY

No matchup at Backlash may feature more pure in-ring chemistry than the showdown between Asuka and IYO SKY. Regarded as two of the greatest women’s wrestlers to ever emerge from Japan, the former Triple Tails stablemates are set to face off in a dark horse for the match of the night.

Both women have consistently delivered standout performances throughout their careers, and whenever they share the ring, the intensity immediately rises.

Fans should expect a physical contest built around strong style offense, fast counters, and high-level ring psychology.

If given enough time, Asuka and SKY could very well put together the match of the night and add another classic chapter to their already impressive history together.

Danhausen & Guest Partner vs. The Miz & Kit Wilson

After weeks of confrontation on Monday Night Raw, The Miz and Kit Wilson will finally get their chance to square off with Danhausen, who has quickly become a thorn in their side.

Danhausen’s mind games have repeatedly pushed both superstars to their limit, turning what started as a minor issue into one of the more bizarre rivalries currently unfolding.

The biggest question heading into the matchup, however, surrounds the identity of Danhausen’s mystery tag team partner.

WWE fans have spent weeks speculating online about who could emerge alongside the eccentric star, with several possible surprises still firmly in play as Backlash approaches.

Roman Reigns (C) vs. Jacob Fatu (World Heavyweight Championship Match)

Two of the company’s top stars will do battle for the World Heavyweight Championship as champion Roman Reigns and his cousin, Jacob Fatu, will go one-on-one after several heated exchanges on Monday Night Raw.

Fatu rides into the match on a wave of momentum, but with how good Roman Reigns looked against CM Punk at WrestleMania, it’s possible the Samoan Werewolf bit off a bit more than he can chew.

Appearance by John Cena

Also advertised on the card is an announcement from John Cena, which WWE is advertising as a huge statement.

It’s speculated that the WrestleMania 44 location is the major announcement, as rumors on social media have swirled that Nashville, Tennessee, will host in 2028.
