The four-star junior Xaverian Brothers quarterback from Natick committed to Penn State football Friday, announcing his decision on Instagram and X, formerly known as Twitter. He will enroll early this spring, Wood confirmed Thursday night at the Catholic Conference Football Showcase.
The No. 3 Class of 2027 player in Massachusetts by 247sports and ESPN is the No. 2 quarterback behind Tabor Academy's Peter Bourque, who recentlly committed to Virginia Tech after flipping from Michigan. Wood ranks 33rd nationally at his position on 247 and is ESPN's No. 20 pocket passer.
"For me, it happened later. It was crazy for me. I wasn't the highest recruited guy, but I was around a lot of those dudes. It put a chip on my shoulder," Wood said. "I'm happy with where I've ended up."
Wood had offers from more than 20 programs ranging from SEC schools like Arkansas, ACC programs North Carolina, Syracuse, Stanford and Wake forest, West Virginia out o the Big 12 and a host of Ivy League and FCS options.

"The past month or two has given me an appreciation for just playing football. Obviously I've been training and all that, but my mind's been elsewhere," Wood said. "I'm happy that I'm able to to get back to that."
He originally planned to commit in late June after completing official visits. Penn State's coaching staff, including first-year head coach Matt Campbell, visited Wood last week.
"When you find the right fit, it kind of accelerates things," he said. "Why wuold I wait if I know where things are trending? I found the right fit. It wasn't in my plan, but it's just what I felt."
Wood is entering his third consecutive season as Xaverian's starting quarterback. He led the Hawks to the Division 1 state championship each of the past two seasons and backed up Henry Hasselbeck during the 2023 title run.
"He's a great young man, and he's a loyal person. If he tells you he's going to do something, he does it," Xaverian coach Al Fornaro said. "He blew the Penn State staff out of the water. He's a pleasure to be aroun, dhe's matured in his roles. I'm happy that he gets to come back next year and play."
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound signal caller threw for 1,726 yards and 23 touchdowns against just six interceptions last year, adding 280 rushing yards and three scores on the ground.

"His presence in the huddle, it's commanding," Xaverian senior lineman Marty Barnes said. "You can tell he's there to win. You trust him."
