Xavi confirms he will miss rest of the season and World Cup through injury

Xavi Simons has confirmed that he will miss the rest of the season after going off injured in Tottenham’s win over Wolves on Saturday.

The Dutchman went down off the ball in the second half, appearing to twist his knee in the ground. He tried to continue, but he eventually had to be carried off on a stretcher.

Roberto De Zerbi said after the match that the midfielder “felt pain” in his knee and that he would not know more until “Monday or Tuesday” this week, however Xavi posted on Instagram late on Sunday evening confirming that he will be out for the rest of the season and be missing the World Cup.

“They say life can be cruel and today it feels that way,” he said. “My season has come to an abrupt end and I’m just trying to process it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense.

“All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me… along with the World Cup. Representing my country this summer…just gone.

“It’ll take time to find peace with this, but I’ll continue to be the best teammate I can be. I have no doubt that together we’ll win this fight.

“I’ll walk this path now, guided by faith, with strength, with resilience, with belief, as I count down the days to getting back out there.

“Be patient with me.”

With that injury he now joins Wilson Odobert, Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski, Destiny Udogie, (also injured against Wolves), , , , and on the sidelines.
