The New York Yankees have been doing some roster shuffling as they look to reclaim the top spot in the division.
The team has endured a bit of a rough patch, losing two series in a row, as it tries to assemble the right bullpen. Recently, that meant demoting Jake Bird and bringing up Yerry De los Santos, though De los Santos was then demoted later in the same day in favor of Angel Chivilli.
The Yankees demoted Jake Bird as part of their efforts to improve their struggling bullpen after losing two consecutive series.
Angel Chivilli was brought up by the Yankees to reinforce their bullpen amid ongoing roster adjustments following recent losses.
The Yankees are facing challenges in their bullpen performance, which has contributed to their recent series losses.

And as the Yankees continue to search for the right relief corps, a familiar face will now get the opportunity to remind his old team of what itâs missing.
âAtlanta selected (Ian) Hamiltonâs contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday,â CBS Sports reported. âThe 30-year-old has typically been pretty effective when healthy, authoring a 3.45 ERA and 152:62 K:BB over the last three seasons with the Yankees. He'll work in middle relief.â
Hamilton was a key bullpen piece for the Yankees from 2023 through 2025, logging more than 135 innings and 152 strikeouts in his time in the Bronx. But his effectiveness seemed to diminish following his 2.64 ERA debut season with the Yankees and the team non-tendered him during the latest offseason.
Hamilton signed a split contract with the Braves and will now get his first chance at returning to a major-league mound. And he could stick with the Braves, as he doesnât have any minor league options remaining, meaning a move back off of the big-league roster could result in him leaving the team.
âHis first year with the Braves organization has kicked off nicely, with 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball and a 9-to-1 K/BB ratio in Triple-A Gwinnett,â Steve Adams noted for MLB Trade Rumors. âLike nearly everyone else in the Atlanta bullpen, Hamilton is out of minor league options.â
After a surprisingly strong start to the season, the Braves sit atop the National League East division with a 12-7 record going into Thursday. And with his Yankees history, Hamilton is used to pitching for clubs with high expectations.
He appeared in two playoff games during the Yankeesâ World Series run in 2024, logging three strikeouts with no earned runs in an appearance in the American League Division Series. But Yankees fans might also remember that he gave up an earned run and a walk while facing just two batters in the American League Championship Series that year as well.
