Aaron Boone displayed compassion for one of his good friends and former teammates the other day.
Over the weekend, the Boston Red Sox fired longtime manager Alex Cora, among many other members of Boston's coaching staff. The Red Sox began the year with a 10-17 record and in fifth place in the AL East.
Boone, the manager of the New York Yankees, told the New York Post's Greg Joyce that he had a discussion with Cora after the firing.
"Aaron Boone had a 'really good talk' with Alex Cora last night," Joyce wrote Sunday on X.
"He's going to be fine and great," Boone told Joyce.

Despite managing rival clubs, Boone and Cora could often be seen sharing a laugh together during batting practice.
They also worked together as analysts at ESPN.
If Cora chooses, being manager of the Red Sox will likely not be his last position in professional baseball. There are managerial openings every offseason, and his name should be atop most organizations' lists.
