We have the best rivalry in Major League Baseball ready to get going during the week, as the Boston Red Sox are set to host the New York Yankees at Fenway Park for a three-game set.
The Red Sox and Yankees, two of the better teams in the American League on paper, have played some interesting baseball to start the year. The Yankees have been much better than Boston, currently 13-9 and in first place in the American League East. Boston, on the other hand, sits at 9-13.
Regardless, this will be an important series for both sides, considering how early it is in the year.
There's also another aspect that many are speaking of, and that's how the Yankees' young right-hander Cam Schlittler will respond to the expected boos he will receive in Boston.
However, Schlittler isn't backing down, as the Massachusetts native made it known that he thought they would quiet down after he shut them down in the postseason a year ago.
“(You’d) think after last time,” Schlittler told Brendan Kuty, “how much they were talking before, that they might be trying to quiet it down a little bit…
“I don’t expect to get a friendly welcome, which I’m planning on,” he said. “It’s going to be a great atmosphere.”
It's pretty funny hearing a young player get so invested in this rivalry, but considering what Red Sox fans have done to him, it's almost unfair not to expect a response.
Whatever happens, the Yankees will have to hope that he puts his money where his mouth is and throws a big game in an important moment.
