The New York Yankees have optioned Anthony Volpe to Triple-A, raising concerns about his future with the team. This move comes as the Yankees address roster needs following Jose Caballero's finger injury.
Key points
Yankees optioned Anthony Volpe to Triple-A
Volpe's performance raised questions about his future
Jose Caballero's finger injury influenced the decision
The New York Yankees ' decision to option Anthony Volpe to Triple-A, it definitely raised some questions about his future in the organization. Volpe has been one of the more polarizing players on the Yankees and, frankly, hasn't deserved to be on the big league roster.
There's a reason the Yankees made this decision, even if they didn't do so in the past.
Interestingly enough, the Yankees brought him up, as Jose Caballero is dealing with a finger injury.
If they kept him in Triple-A for another few weeks, the Yankees wouldāve added another year to Volpe's contract, as he wouldnāt hit free agency until 2029.
On the other side of that, what if the Yankees decide to call up George Lombard Jr. if Volpe struggles?
I highly doubt that's the plan, given how young Lombard is and the fact that he just made his Triple-A debut, but it would be interesting to see this happen and would effectively end Volpe's time in New York.
