The New York Yankees made a notable roster move on Wednesday.
Left-hander Ryan Weathers was placed on the paternity list, meaning someone from a Triple-A will replace him on the roster.
The Yankees opted to call up reliever Jake Bird, who was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after a bad outing against the Los Angeles Angels on April 13.
Bird's 7.71 ERA is less than pretty, and it skyrocketed after allowing a game-tying three-run home run to Mike Trout. However, the Yankees may not even use Bird during this Major League stint.
MLB allows players one to three days to be away from their club upon the birth of their child. Weathers was not listed as a probable starter in New York's series against the Boston Red Sox, so he should make it back in time for his next start.

Ryan Weathers was placed on the paternity list due to personal reasons related to family.
Jake Bird has a 7.71 ERA, which is concerning, but he was called up to replace Weathers on the roster.
It's uncertain if Jake Bird will see significant playing time during his call-up to the Yankees.
