Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton is likely heading to the injured list due to lower leg tightness. His absence could open up opportunities for Spencer Jones to step up in the lineup.
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton Pickle Could Mean Big News for Spencer Jones
New York Yankees star Giancarlo Stanton exited his team's win over the Houston Astros on Friday night with lower leg tightness, meaning an IL stint seems pretty likely for the slugger.
Stanton was just starting to heat up, as he delivered a pair of multi-hit games against the Boston Red Sox and ripped a 108-mph RBI single against the Astros before coming out of the game.
So, what now? If Stanton does hit the IL, it will result in gaping hole in the middle of the Yankees' order. Thankfully, Jazz Chisholm is starting to hit, and Ben Rice has been terrific all year. But they're going to need another power hitter.
Amed Rosario could fill in as a DH while Ryan McMahon plays third base, but I'm also not sure you want Rosario playing every day.
Could this mean that Spencer Jones may be on the way?
Jones tore it up in Spring Training, smashing six home runs with a 1.526 OPS. He has already homered five times with 24 RBI in Triple-A this season, although the strikeouts have remained an issue.
But with the former top-100 prospect turning 25 years old this May, his value is dipping more and more by the day.
Giancarlo Stanton is experiencing lower leg tightness, which may lead to an injured list stint.
Stanton's potential absence will create a significant gap in the Yankees' batting order, necessitating the need for another power hitter.
If Stanton goes on the injured list, Spencer Jones is a likely candidate to fill the void in the Yankees' lineup.

I said on Friday that the only way Jones would really get a shot with the Yankees this season is if Trent Grisham continued batting below the Mendoza line or if there were an injury ... especially to someone like Stanton.
Well, the latter has now officially happened, which could open the door for Jones to finally make his long-awaited big-league debut.
Now, it should be noted that Jasson Dominguez could be ahead of Jones in the pecking order right now. He has been terrific in the minor leagues thus far in 2026, and unlike Jones, he actually has major-league experience.
But why not just give the hulking Jones a chance?
Jones is a left-handed hitter, and his powerful swing should play really well with the short right-field porch at Yankee Stadium. Plus, at some point, we need to see what the Vanderbilt product can do, right?
Will New York actually pull the trigger and call up Jones? Probably not. Dominguez would likely be the first man up. But if I'm being honest, I would prefer the Yanks to promote Jones just to see what he has.
Plus, unlike Dominguez, Jones can actually play the outfield well, which would allow the Yankees to DH Aaron Judge on certain days.
If Stanton does end up on the IL, Jones is just a call away.
