Yankees legend Reggie Jackson criticized President Trump over rising gas prices, questioning the U.S. reliance on foreign oil amid the Iran conflict. He highlighted the disconnect between U.S. oil independence claims and high fuel costs.
Yankees legend Reggie Jackson is once again taking aim at President Donald Trump.
With gas prices nearing an all-time high, the Hall of Famer is questioning Americaâs tactics â especially in its involvement in the Iran conflict.
âSo we donât need oil from outside countries? Help me and us with that please? Then why are our prices so high? We donât applaud you, because you do that,â Jackson wrote in an X/Twitter post. âStop beating down the opposition. Just continue to outdo them! Be first class. Just win the game, youâll get credit.â
Oil prices have surged globally since the conflict in Iran began in late February, with crude surpassing $100 per barrel several times in this period. Despite suffering significant loss of life and a change in leadership, Iran has found it has an advantage in its control of the Strait of Hormuz, where much of the worldâs oil supply travels through.
Trump continually insists that the U.S. produces enough oil and doesnât need oil from the Middle East, but the blockade has significantly impacted prices globally.
Jacksonâs latest post is part of a pattern of public criticism aimed at the Trump administration.
In January, the Hall of Famer criticized the Trump administration for launching a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.
In a social media post, Jackson accused Trump of trying to intimidate the Fed through legal action. Jackson also applauded JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon for rallying behind Powell amid the Justice Departmentâs criminal inquiry.
Then, on Apr. 4, the Yankees legend took to social media to rip Trumpâs Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth for the ousting of Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George and Army Gen. David Hodne.
âWhatâs happening with our (Secretary) of Defense?â Jackson asked in an X/Twitter post. âHow do we get rid of all that experience at this time? ...
âGetting rid of The Chaplin leader? What? Weâve got a war going on and weâre getting rid of most of our experience and knowledge built with uniform time.â
