The New York Yankees came into the 2026 regular season with a few very clear injuries the team was dealing with, most notably the issues with Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, and Anthony Volpe.
With Rodon already back, and Cole likely right around the corner, the only question mark has been Volpe. His rehab stint ended, but the Yankees optioned him to Triple-A this season on May 4th.
A little over a week later, according to Francys Romero of Beisbolfr.com, the Yankees have decided to recall Volpe to the MLB roster for another chance at the big-league level.
"Sources: The New York Yankees are calling up SS Anthony Volpe from Triple-A Scranton," Romero reports.
Volpe was down in the minor leagues at the Triple-A level for only eight days after completing his initial rehab assignment, and he's now back up in the Majors.
In his time at the minor league level, Volpe had three hits in 24 at-bats with three runs scored, two doubles, no home runs, and two RBIs.

Not a very impressive performance from Volpe, but now he's back up in the Majors and will get another chance to keep a starting spot in the Yankees lineup.
Last year, in 153 games and 569 plate appearances, he posted 19 homers with a .212 batting average and .663 OPS with an 81 OPS+.
He's not once been a plus-hitter in his career, with an 86 OPS+ in 2024, the best season he's had in the Majors.
Even though it might be an abbreviated season due to his injury, Volpe is looking to put together a bounce-back season coming off his shoulder injury.
