The New York Yankees are slowly starting to get some of their key players healthy and back into the rotation. However, it seems like every time one player returns, another one goes down with an injury.
Yankees starter Max Fried made his start earlier in the week, but before he could settle into a rhythm, he was removed from the game due to injury concerns.
“New York Yankees lefty Max Fried exited Wednesday's start against the Baltimore Orioles after three innings with elbow posterior soreness, the team announced. He will undergo tests and further examination during the team's off-day on Thursday,” CBS Sports’ Mike Axisa wrote.
There is still no update on how much time Fried could miss, but an elbow injury is never a good sign for a pitcher. If he is forced to miss extended time, New York may need to make a move for another starter. veteran could be a solid depth option to target in a trade.

“Granted, this probably isn't the splash fans had in mind for a midseason acquisition. But it's still just the middle of May; there's time yet for Cashman to take a bigger swing as the trade deadline gets closer. Right now the task is something more akin to triage, finding ballast to help keep this rotation afloat and not put undue stress on any of the biggest names. There are several options to consider — the Angels' Reid Detmers on the high end, Colorado's Michael Lorenzen on the low end — but Mahle feels like a pretty clean fit,” FanSided’s Chris Landers wrote.
New York would simply need someone capable of holding things together until the rotation gets healthy again. Mahle has already been mentioned in trade rumors, as he is currently on an expiring contract.
The Yankees are hoping to make another World Series appearance after reaching the Fall Classic in 2024. While Mahle would not be considered a blockbuster addition, he could still provide meaningful value to the rotation. Mahle is on a $10 million contract, and if Fried is sidelined for an extended stretch, a trade for the veteran right-hander could make a lot of sense.
