New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried was marvelous against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night.
The Red Sox looked lost at the plate against Fried, who threw eight shutout innings and allowed just three hits with nine strikeouts in New York's 4-1 victory.
However, the three-time All-Star made an early adjustment that may have helped him throughout the game. In the second, Fried walked Andruw Monasterio and watched Jarren Duran lace a double off the Green Monster in left field.
Fried didn't panic, striking out three consecutive Red Sox hitters to escape the jam. Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake made a wise suggestion following the frame, telling Fried that his command out of the stretch has been much better than from the windup.
âHey, itâs not working. When are you going to cut it out?" Blake reportedly told Fried, per MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.
