The New York Yankees were dealt a very significant injury scare during Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles, as Max Fried, their lefty ace, left the game after just three innings and 61 pitches.
It was a worrying outing, and being pulled from it early was even greater cause for concern. And not long after, Fried was revealed to have left this start with left elbow posterior soreness.
According to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, after the game, Fried was asked about this injury, and he revealed some encouraging optimism about this elbow issue that should, at the very least, quell concerns about how serious this issue may be.
"I'm not too worried about a super long-term thing," Fried said postgame. "If I can, I would love to be able to make my next start, but we'll see."
While this comment from Fried doesn't reveal any specifics, his optimism for being able to make his next start is some welcome commentary.

Fried might miss his next outing, and could even go on the injured list with the Yankees being extra careful with his elbow issue.
But, if this isn't a long-term problem, and the Yankees could get Fried back for the end of the season and into the playoffs, then this wouldn't be the worst outcome possible at all.
Hoch also shared a report about how Fried will have imaging done on Thursday on the left elbow posterior soreness injury he sustained in this outing against the Orioles.
While this situation isn't a good one overall, the commentary from Fried on this elbow issue does at least quell some of the worst-case-scenario fears that naturally come to mind when thinking of an elbow injury for a pitcher.
More will be known on Thursday about Fried's injury, including how bad the injury is and how long Fried might miss. But, for now, Fried sharing that he's "not too worried" is about as much as the Yankees' fan base could ask for after such an injury scare.
