On Monday night, the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels had a shootout of a performance, with there being 21 runs scored in total across the nine-inning slate. For the Angels, Mike Trout led the way with two home runs to his name, which would help contribute to his five RBIs, while several of his teammates would have single run contributions.

The Yankees, on the otherhand had two players hit multiple home runs on Monday night: Aaron Judge and Trent Grishman. The two combined for eight of New York's 11 runs in their come-from-behind win.

The more surprising part was that for the Yankees, their pitching got off to a strong start as Will Warren took to the mound for 3.2 innings of shutout baseball, allowing three hits while fanning six batters in the process. It would be New York’s bullpen that allowed the Angels back into the game, with Jake Bird and Cilo Doval allowing five earned runs.

The Yankees make a roster move following Monday night’s win

Despite walking away from the match with a win, the Yankees front office made a roster move on Tuesday morning, as they’re set to send Bird to their Triple-A affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, according to the MLB’s transaction tracker.

Monday’s lackluster appearance out of the bullpen against the Angels hasn’t been unlike Bird’s other seven appearances this season, as he’s struggled to get things going, posting an ERA of 7.71 and a record of 1-1.

The 30-year-old was acquired by the Yankees in a trade with the Colorado Rockies last season, for two minor league players, Roc Riggio and Ben Shields. Bird’s first season in the Bronx wouldn’t go as he might have planned, letting up six earned runs across two innings of work.
