The New York Yankees’ problems with their offense is starting to really affect them, as they now move down to second in the AL East with a record of 10-8. With that in mind, pulling a typical Yankees move and landing a superstar bat during the season might be in their best interest.
FanSided’s Christopher Kline believes so as well, and predicts that if the Yankees could trade for someone they’ve been linked to previously in Washington Nationals All-Star CJ Abrams. He would easily be a starter on the left side of the infield, and could serve as a potential replacement to Jazz Chisholm Jr. at second if the two sides can’t come to an agreement about an extension.

“Another logical AL destination for Abrams, the Yankees need to wake up their bats. Abrams is a massive offensive upgrade over Ryan McMahon or Anthony Volpe. He can also serve as a hedge against Jazz Chisholm's upcoming free agency. The Yankees might feel more comfortable paying Abrams long term, and New York is one of the few clubs with the resources necessary to extend Abrams — or even to win a bidding war on the open market,” Kline wrote.
Abrams is having a MVP candidate season so far, slashing an mind-blowing .367/.458/.717/1.175 with three doubles, six home runs, 19 RBI and four stolen bases in 17 games. He could easily start over Ryan MacMahon and Anthony Volpe, and be that aforementioned replacement for Chisholm if need be.
Abrams is making $4.2 million this season, and still has two more years of arbitration after. For a team like the Yankees that loves to spend, this is chump change to them. Plus, if he were to keep this up for the season, they would probably just sign him long-term.
Hopefully, the Yanks find a way to get him, as he might be the sparkplug they need. Plus, if he can keep this up, and the Yanks sign him long-term, he could be the face of the franchise post-Aaron Judge.
