ARLINGTON, Texas â The Yankees toyed with their active roster again Tuesday by calling up utility infielder Max Schuemann from Triple-A.
Schuemann is replacing designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain.
After one game, Schuemann probably will be optioned back to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre because right-hander Elmer Rodriguez, the organizationâs No. 3 prospect in MLB Pipelineâs rankings, is coming up to make his major-league debut in Wednesday afternoonâs series finale against the Rangers.

Due to Thursdayâs off day, the Yankees could have waited until next Tuesday to add a starter, but it works out better this way because Rodriguez hasnât pitched since April 22. On Thursday, heâll have two extra days of rest.
Rodriguez, 22, is off to a great start in Triple-A with a 1.27 ERA in four starts.
A native of Puerto Rico, the 6-foot-4, 177 pounder was drafted by the Red Sox in the fourth round in 2021 and traded to the Yankees on Dec. 11, 2024, for catcher Carlos Narvaez.
Schuemann, 28, began his career hitting .212 with 9 homers and 21 steals over 134 games from 2024-25 with the Athletics. He was dealt to the Yankees on Feb. 9 for pitching prospect Luis Burgos.
This season, the right-handed hitter batted just .203 with 1 homer, 7 RBIs and 6 steals in 23 games with Scranton.
