The New York Yankees' 6-foot-7 rookie apparently can hit the ball at a dangerous speed.
That's what happened on Friday night against the New York Mets. Jones was hitting against Mets righty Clay Holmes, and he blasted a ball back up the middle.
It clobbered Holmes' leg, and Jones reached when the deflection couldn't be fielded in time to get him out. It goes in the books as a single for Jones, but it was bad news for the Mets.
Turns out, Holmes got a fractured fibula.

After the game, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Holmes will be out "for a long time."
It's that kind of season for the Mets, really. Things just aren't going right.

Clearly, you don't plan on your pitcher having his leg broken by a hard hit up the middle.
Jones obviously wouldn't have wanted this to happen, either. It's an unfortunate side effect of squaring the baseball up right back where it came from.
The Yankees are obviously glad Jones is hitting the ball hard. The Mets are obviously bummed that Holmes is hurt.
