A decent start to the 2026 campaign shouldn't stop the New York Yankees from being aggressive during the trade deadline.
Whether that be going out and adding another arm or another bat remains to be seen, but the Yankees can certainly use some more help. We unfortunately saw that over the past week against the Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays.
Ryan Shea of SI proposed a deal that would do just that. His deal would send Munetaka Murakami to New York, while moving Spencer Jones and Elmer Rodriguez to the Chicago White Sox.
This would be one of the more shocking deals around Major League Baseball, considering how the young White Sox hitter was just a free agent just a few months ago.
âThe New York Yankees would make this trade primarily because it fills a glaring hole at third base. Ryan McMahon has struggled to produce consistently, leaving the position open for a high-upside option.
âMunetaka Murakami offers middle-of-the-order power and RBI upside, with a track record of elite production in Japan and early MLB flashes despite the adjustment period. Acquiring Murakami gives the Yankees a potential long-term solution at 3B, boosting their lineup with a controllable bat that can contribute across home runs, RBIs, and counting statsâall key for a team trying to maximize wins in the AL East.â
Moving on from Jones might not be something that fans want to do, but it's just a reality of what probably has to happen for the Yankees to be the best possible team. It's also fair to note that Ryan McMahon just hasn't been great recently for the Yankees, and they need a much better offensive player at third base.
The proposed trade would send Munetaka Murakami to the New York Yankees while Spencer Jones and Elmer Rodriguez would go to the Chicago White Sox.
The Yankees are looking to strengthen their roster as they have struggled recently, particularly against teams like the Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays.
Acquiring Murakami could significantly enhance the Yankees' lineup, potentially improving their performance as they approach the trade deadline.
