Trent Grisham entered Monday night in a fascinating spot. All his underlying numbers said he should be getting better results at the plate. But the results had yet to come.
That changed as the New York Yankees opened their series against the Angels. Grisham broke out in a big way.
First, in the bottom of the fifth, he crushed a three-run home run to right-center, giving the Yankees a 7-4 lead.
Then trailing 10-8 in the bottom of the ninth, Grisham found a similar spot of the ballpark with a game-tying, two-run home run.
The Yankees would win on a wild pitch later in the frame.
And in the process, Grisham made some Yankees history.
The Yanks hadn't had a player hit both a go-ahead and a game-tying home run in the fifth inning or later of a game in 14 years.
Raul Ibanez did it back in ALDS Game 3 in 2012 on a very memorable night for those in the Bronx.

Grisham's stage wasn't the postseason in the way Ibanez's was, but it was a much needed catharsis for Grisham.
He likely knew that he was hitting the ball well and that his stats would turn around soon. But sometimes the best proof of concept is the outcome itself. And on this night, Grisham couldn't get unlucky. He hit the baseball too far for any Angels in the outfield to catch it.
And the Yankees sure are grateful. They wouldn't have won this wild game without him.
