The city of Philadelphia is no stranger to the playoffs. Between the Phillies, Eagles, and Sixers, the postseason has become the expectation, especially over the last 5 years. The one team missing from that trend: the Philadelphia Flyers.
That all has changed. For the first time since 2020, the Flyers are in the Stanley Cup playoffs. When their series with the Pittsburgh Penguins returns to Philadelphia for Game 3, it will be the first playoff hockey game in Philly since 2018.
For the first time in a while, the city is excited for the Flyers and playoff hockey.
That excitement does not stop at the city. The players are looking forward to this next opportunity.
Travis Konecny has been around for a while. He is one of three players who were around the last time the team was in the playoffs in 2020, and when the Flyers played their last postseason game at home.
With that, he has seen the other teams around the city make their playoff pushes, and has seen the fan excitement with that. Now, heâs excited to be a part of it.
âIâve been through all the Super Bowls and World Series stuff,â said Konecny. âIâve seen all this playoff stuff going on around, basketball team too. All the playoff stuff. You want to be part of it. Every single year, you see it.â
Konecny has seen it. He knows what the Philadelphia crowd is like when the playoffs are in full swing. For a lot of the other guys, it will be their first time seeing what the Philly crowd can bring, for real.
âI only heard great things about the Philly fans and playoff hockey,â said Flyers defenseman .

Even the new guys, who started the season in Lehigh Valley, are feeling the postseason excitement. Forward Denver Barkey is excited to see what the crowd can bring.
â[Monday] was probably the loudest rink Iâve ever been in, by far,â Barkey Said. âAnd just to see the impact we had on the fans and see how loud they got for clinching a playoff spot, it makes you just imagine how loud theyâre going to be for game three. Itâs exciting. It just gives us extra motivation, something else to play for.â
Still, the players know theyâre on a mission, even the young ones.
âThe fact that weâre going to the playoffs is very special,â said rookie forward Alex Bump. âBut itâs just the same old hockey game. I canât try to overthink too much.â
Round 1 starts on Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. EST in Pittsburgh. The date for Game 3 in Philadelphia is yet to be determined.
