HOLLAND - When the Zeeland West tennis team begins to warmup before a match, it is difficult to know who plays No. 1 singles.
All four singles players are experienced, strong and precise - and they get the job done.
Junior Emily Haskill leads the group, playing first singles for the third year in a row. She is one of the top players in West Michigan.
But what makes the Dux so formidable is that all four singles players returned from last season - Harley Brown, Halle Reider and Aneliece Yin.
Each is the top seed or near the top spot in the OK Black Conference with a week to go before the conference tournament.

"This year, we have a good shot at winning it," Brown said. "Our doubles have gotten a lot stronger. We just want to put up a good fight. We want to play confidently and still have fun. We have grown super close having the same singles lineup for two years.
"It is like our little family."
A family that is used to each other.
"Having the same people for two years is nice because you can really be honest with each other. You aren't trying to impress someone new or easing into a relationship," Reider said. "We have more time to get in depth with stuff. We all know how to help each other."
Zeeland West's Halle Reider returns a shot against Holland on Tuesday, April 28, at Holland's Tiger Teusink Tennis Courts.
Haskill is 3-1 at No. 1 singles with her only loss being a match where she split sets with Holland Christian then had to retire with illness before the third.
Brown has only lost to Holland Christian's Iyla Holmes at No. 2. She said the dynamic between the singles players helps her growth.
"We are all very competitive with each other, which is super fun.There is a lot of focus on the specifics," Brown said. "We are very technique focused. We correct each other a lot, which is awesome because we can all take criticism well - and we lift each other up, too."
Reider is 4-0 at No. 3 singles. She helped the Dux earn a 7-1 win over Holland on Tuesday, April 28.
"Looking at points and figuring out where I want to put my shots is my biggest improvement. I have the tactic of coming in when I need to so I can put the shots where I need to," Reider said. "Being able to push through points with strong shots and going through a long point is super nice."
Yin is 4-0 at No. 4.
"I think it is really cool to see everyone compete. You don't see many players at No. 3 and No. 4 play like Halle and Aneliece do," Brown said. "We have that confidence in each other."
The Dux are hoping that confidence leads to a conference title.
"We are hoping to bring a lot of grit to conference. It is definitely a good pressure," Reider said. "This is our year and that gives us confidence."
