Andy Robertson transfer warning to Richard Hughes after Liverpool exit confirmed
Liverpool will wave goodbye to yet another legend at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Following on from the announcement that Mohamed Salah would have his £400k per week contract ripped up one year early comes the news that will exit.
Robbo, 32, has been at Anfield since joining on an £8m deal from Hull City back in 2017. The Scotland captain has gone on to become one of the best left-backs in Premier League history - racking up a plethora of team honours along the way.
But with his £160k per week contract expiring in 2026 the defender is now surplus to requirements and free to find a new club.
Last summer Richard Hughes signed Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth on a £40m deal and the 22-year-old is expected to be the starting left-back for the years ahead.
Already squeezed out in January Robertson discussed a move to Tottenham but stayed as Liverpool didnāt have a replacement.
But with plenty of academy talent in the pipeline - and Kostas Tsimikas returning from his loan at Roma - Robertson will be departing Merseyside after nine glorious years.
And according to Paul Joyce in the Times Robbo has got no plans to call time on testing himself at the top level.
Rather than moving back to the Scottish league Robertson is a target for top teams abroad - as well as Tottenham in the Premier League.
āTottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Juventus will be alerted by his availability on a free transfer,ā the report reads.
āIt is understood he is not looking to move back to Scotland at this stage of his career.ā
Last summer a move to Atletico Madrid was discussed with Diego Simeone reported to be a big fan of the Scotland international. Celtic were reportedly interested in offering Robbo a romantic homecoming - with the player being a boyhood Celtic fan.
But it could come as a warning to Liverpool decision-makers that Robertson is not done yet at the highest level. Plenty of teams out there still think heās got plenty to give - so letās hope thereās no regret for Richard Hughes after his next move is confirmed.
