The Patriots' loss was attributed to poor offensive play calling by coordinator Josh McDaniels, a weak offensive line, and ineffective receiver performance.
Drake Maye struggled during the Super Bowl, appearing overwhelmed and unable to lead the offense effectively in a high-pressure situation.
Drake Maye's journey included a rapid rise from a promising rookie in 2024 to being the NFL MVP runner-up in 2025, helping the Patriots win the AFC East and reach the Super Bowl.
Drake Maye, the New England Patriots quarterback, reflects on the 'humbling' experience of losing in Super Bowl LX after a surprising rise from rookie to NFL MVP runner-up. The Patriots struggled offensively, leading to a disappointing performance in the championship game.
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's meteoric rise from promising rookie in 2024 to runner-up for NFL MVP in 2025 was the magic carpet ride no one expected. The Patriots went from being a four-win team to winning the AFC East division, defeating the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game and facing the Seattle Seahawks at Super Bowl LX.
And in one game, the wings of the soaring Patriots team with their young All-Pro quarterback got clipped long before Bad Bunny took the stage at halftime.
The Patriots' offense was completely rattled in the biggest game of the season. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels called his worst game of the season, and the offensive line got obliterated. There was little separation from the receivers, and the rushing attack looked dead on arrival.
And swept up in all of that chaos was a 23-year-old Maye, who looked helpless under the bright lights.
âYou gotta get back to work. I think itâs humbling," Maye said on Under the Umbrellas at the Master's. "I think that's the biggest thing about it. It's humbling. You've got to get back to work. When youâre so close and within reach, you want that feeling. Everybody says youâll be back, itâs not that easy. So we gotta get back to work. I'm looking forward to trying to prove to myself that we can get back."
Maye's reaction to the loss is everything any successful franchise would want to hear from its young quarterback.
Last season was Year 1 under Mike Vrabel in New England, and the team won three playoff games. Even after losing the Super Bowl, most would classify the year as a massive success for the franchise.
Maye experienced significant opportunities for growth in a year that saw him win his first playoff game, hoist his first AFC Championship trophy and compete in his first Super Bowl. Whether the Patriots get back to the Super Bowl or not next season, the future is exceptionally bright in New England with him under center.
