Former Alabama outfielder Tyler Gentry has signed a minor league deal with the Detroit Tigers after being released by the Kansas City Royals. He will play for the Toledo Mud Hens, the Tigers' Triple-A affiliate.
After being released by the Kansas City Royals back in late March, former Alabama baseball outfielder Tyler Gentry has now found a new home.
According to the team's transactions page, Gentry has signed a minor league deal with the Detroit Tigers, doing so back on April 11. Gentry has also been assigned to the Toledo Mud Hens, Detroit's Triple-A affiliate.
A former third round pick from the 2020 MLB draft out of Alabama, Gentry had spent the entirety of his professional career in the Royals organization up to this point, which included making his MLB debut with Kansas City during the 2024 season. That major league debut included three games played that season, a sample size that saw Gentry go 0-for-5 with two strikeouts at the plate.
Last season, Gentry appeared in 86 games with the Omaha Storm Chasers, Kansas City's Triple-A affiliate, where he slashed .206/.284/.371 with nine home runs, 34 RBI, and four stolen bases.
Gentry has yet to appear in a game at either the major or minor league level so far this season.
