NEW DELHI: Shubman Gill starred with a fluent half-century as Gujarat Titans registered a convincing seven-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Chasing 165, Gujarat Titans rode on Gillâs composed 56 off 40 balls, while Jos Buttler provided the finishing flourish with a blistering 60 off just 27 deliveries.
The chase was completed comfortably, helping GT climb to fifth on the points table.
They now have two wins and two losses from four matches, with four points and a net run rate of -0.029.
The match also marked a major milestone for Gill, who became the youngest player in IPL history to reach 4,000 runs.
At 26 years and 216 days, he broke the previous record held by Virat Kohli, who had achieved the feat in 2016 at the age of 27 years and 195 days.
Gill now has 4,031 runs in 118 IPL innings at an impressive average of 39.91, including 28 half-centuries and four hundreds.
In terms of innings taken, he is the fifth-fastest batter to reach the landmark, with KL Rahul leading the list, having got there in just 104 innings.
Gujarat Titans will next face Kolkata Knight Riders on April 17, while Lucknow Super Giants, who slipped to sixth after the defeat, will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 15.
