The three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro remains under contract through 2027 and is set to earn $20 million in 2026 as part of his 2023 extension. His request stems from frustration over the lack of progress on a new deal that would better reflect his elite contributions to the Giants' defensive line, despite a down season in 2025 due to a lingering elbow injury.
From the Giants’ perspective, the organization has expressed a clear desire to retain their cornerstone defensive player. Head coach John Harbaugh stated the team wants Lawrence in New York and believes the player ultimately does as well, while acknowledging the business realities of the NFL.
Harbaugh noted he anticipated the request and emphasized that discussions with Lawrence’s agent have been productive.
With no serious external interest materializing publicly and the Giants showing no inclination to move him, the most likely outcome remains an internal resolution. Both sides appear positioned to work through the situation, allowing Lawrence to remain a key part of New York’s defensive rebuild under Harbaugh and general manager Joe Schoen.
