Louisville officials are proposing to build a sports arena on the site of Lynn Family Stadium, the home of the city's professional soccer teams, by 2028, according to an April 13 report from the Sports Business Journal.
Developers plan to target "a minor league hockey ownership group, a professional volleyball organization and others" as potential tenants, John Neace, chairman of Louisville City FC ownership group Soccer Holdings, told Sports Business Journal.
A spokesperson for Soccer Holdings said Neace would not immediately be available for comment when reached by The Courier Journal.
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg previously alluded to a proposed sports-related project in his State of the City address Feb. 12.
"Weâve all known that Louisville is one of the best sports cities in the entire country," he said at the time. "Now, more and more people are taking notice. In fact, Louisville has four of USA TODAYâs top 10 sports attractions in America. And, if you bear with me for a short-time, I think weâll have another huge announcement that will make you flip."
Greenberg's office has not yet responded to a request for comment.
This is a developing story and may update.
