The New York Mets certainly have learned how to disappoint their fans over time.
They're doing that in a pretty painful way so far in the early going of the 2026 MLB season.
They've already had four different hitters with streaks of at least 0-for-17 in a row.
Two of the streaks are active:
Earlier this season, rookie Carson Benge had an 0-for-24 stretch.

Marcus Semien also had an 0-for-20 streak earlier in the campaign.
MLB.com's Anthony DiComo writes that "no other team has had four players with hitless streaks of that length this season."

This would be a tough enough problem if it was just one or two guys struggling.
But it's almost half of the Mets' batting lineup that has found itself in a major funk already this season.
New York still has time to get multiple guys on hot streaks at once instead of cold streaks.
But at least right now, it'd be hard to find a hitting stat more depressing that this one.
