On Wednesday, Boston Bruins fans received the news they were anxiously awaiting when the team announced it had signed Boston College forward and 2025 NHL first-round draft pick James Hagens to an entry-level contract.
Most of Bruins Nation was elated, but not 98.5 The Sports Hubâs flagship host, Michael Felger. Felgerâs expectations for what the 19-year-old who nearly led the NCAA in points scored this season are extremely low.
âIâm just prepared to be disappointed on James Hagens. I am. Call me defeatist or whatever,â Felger said. âI think the kidâs gonna suck.â
Felger then changed his tone. Saying that it is nothing personal against the Hauppauge, NY native, because he has never seen him play. Like⊠ever.
âThis is worse than Mazz and ⊠Cooper Flagg. (Mazz) watched him for two minutes on YouTube and said âThis kid doesnât have it.â I havenât watched that on James Hagens,â Felger said. âIâve watched zero James Hagens. Zero, zero, zero. I never saw him at BC. I didnât watch him at all at Providence. I havenât watched a clip.
âBut you heard it here first, that kidâs gonna suck.â
Welcome to Boston, I guess. If Felger is trying to prepare the teenager for what itâs going to be like in the Boston sports media, I suppose he is doing a good job.
As someone who has actually paid attention to Hagens on his path to TD Garden, I am excited about the prospect of what the young point scorer can bring to the Bruins. He made a habit of setting up his linemates to score at Boston College and in Providence, and I see no reason why that wouldnât continue during his late-season stint with Boston.
