Oliver Baumann has been the mainstay goalkeeper for Julian Nagelsmann since EURO 2024 and he has more than earned that position with the German veteran aging like fine wine and putting in some excellent performances for Die Mannschaft over the past couple years. Baumann has been a rock in goal for TSG Hoffenheim as well and with strong performances come transfer rumors.
With Baumannâs success and the potential for Manuel Neuer to retire after the end of the season, there is a real opportunity for Bayern Munich to make a move for the veteran goalkeeper as a cheap option to back up Jonas Urbig as the future for the Bavarian giants.
It wouldnât be surprising to think that Bayern Munich are already cooking up that scheme should Neuer retire, and the rumors around the move have been circling around in recent weeks. So much so that Baumann was directly asked about being linked to Bayern Munich next season.
âOh wow, I havenât even thought about that yet. Iâll think about it at some point â or maybe not,â Baumann told Bild as captured by @iMiaSanMia.
It seems like a win-win for everyone to do this deal. Bayern Munich needs an affordable transfer for a goalkeeper who has the potential to be a top goalkeeper if called upon, Urbig gains a mentor and relief to share game time throughout future seasons, and Baumann can end his illustrous career with some titles. Who says no?
