The Toronto Blue Jays have had a rough start to the 2026 season after being the runner-up to the champions last year, with a record of 6-9 and tied for last in the AL East. This is mostly do in part to the numerous injuries to their starting rotation, which means if they want to get back on track, they need some upgrades.
FanSidedâs Mark Powell proposes one upgrade they make is through a trade with the Los Angeles Angels for their breakout ace, Jose Soriano. Soriano is pitching out of his mind right now, and could easily overhaul their rotation.
The trade would look like this:
Blue Jays get: RHP Jose Soriano
Angels get: MLB No. 71 overall prospect SS Arjun Nimmala, TOR No. 8 prospect RHP Jake Bloss
âThere is one MLB contender who could be willing to overpay this season, and that's the Toronto Blue Jays. The Jays have been bitten by the injury bug, with Trey Yesavage, Jose Berrios, Shane Bieber and Cody Ponce all on the IL. At some point, Ross Atkins has to act in hopes of salvaging his starting rotationâŠSoriano would give the Blue Jays another strikeout artist (he had 10 Ks his last time out). He's also not the kind of player the Angels should part with. Soriano is a star in the making, and an affordable one at that,â Powell wrote.
So far this season, Soriano has posted a 4-0 record, an ERA of 0.33, 31 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.667 over 27 innings pitched. Heâs also only set to make $2.9 million this season, and still has two more years of control.
If the Jays land him, they could make Soriano their ace over Kevin Gausman instantaneously. Or, they could plug him in the middle of the rotation to keep opposing teams on their toes. Either way, getting Soriano should be at the top of their to-do list, no matter what.
