The offseason trade acquisition was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday in advance of what could eventually be his MLB debut.
Samaniego told reporters, including Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald and Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe, what receiving Wednesday's news was like.
"Tyler Samaniego found out he was being called up at around 9:30 this morning and just arrived after a mad dash to Fenway from Worcester," Cerullo posted on Bluesky. "His family and friends won’t be able to make it in time for first pitch but they will hopefully see him in St. Louis this weekend."
"One of the best things about this job is talking to players when they get called up for the first time. This from Tyler Samaniego this morning," Abraham added on Bluesky.
Samaniego was taken by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 15th round of the 2021 MLB June Amateur Draft and he advanced to Double-A each of the last four seasons.
The Red Sox acquired the 27-year-old in a December trade with the Pirates that also landed them right-handed pitcher Johan Oviedo.
