No. 9 Tennessee (34-6, 9-6 SEC) softball defeated Kennesaw State (7-29, 3-12 CUSA), 13-5, in five innings on Wednesday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. Rankings reflect the NFCA/GoRout Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll.
Erin Nuwer (13-1) started for the Lady Vols and pitched four innings. She totaled eight strikeouts and 62 pitches, including 40 strikes, against 15 batters. Nuwer allowed two hits, one run (zero earned), one wild pitch and hit one batter. She also did not allow a walk.
Peyton Hardenburger pitched 0.2 innings in relief and recorded 21 pitches (12 strikes) against seven batters. She allowed four hits, four runs (four earned) and one walk.
Tennesseeâs offense totaled 14 hits, including a two-run home run from Ella Dodge in the first inning.
Kentucky will next host the Lady Vols for a three-game series beginning Saturday in SEC play.
