Texas A&M's spring football season continues this week, and ahead of the Aggies' ninth practice, one of the program's recent visitors from the 2027 recruiting class has released his final five program list, as blue-chip four-star edge Mekai Brown is down to Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Ohio State, USC, and Texas A&M before making his final decision in the coming months.
Among Texas A&M's 11 commitments in the 2027 cycle, five-star edge Zyron Forstall and four-star edge Kaden McCarty represent a future pass rush duo that looks elite on paper, and if Mekai Brown joins the mix, coach Mike Elko and defensive line coaches Elijah Robinson and Tony Jerod-Eddie won't have to utilize the transfer portal at the position in the coming seasons.
From a size perspective, Mekai Brown's 6'7" frame sticks out, while his notable power, with just a bull rush off the edge and versatility along the defensive line, has led to his rise as a top 50-ranked prospect with immense potential in the right scheme. Last week, current sophomore DL Landon Rink spoke for nearly every recruit when stating that Texas A&M is the "total package" and that âCoach Elko gets D-linemen drafted.â
Brown's 2025 season was shortened to just four appearances, while his 2024 sophomore season included 36 tackles, seven sacks, and seven tackles for loss. Brown's 2026 senior season, if he stays healthy, could make him a five-star prospect before signing with a team.
According to 247Sports, Brown is currently positioned as the 49th-ranked prospect in the 2027 class, the 8th-ranked Edge, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in Connecticut.
