The Packers gained a fifth-round pick in 2027 and another fifth-round pick from the Eagles in 2026.
The trade was made to free up roster space and draft capital, as Wicks was not expected to play a significant role on the team.
Following the trade, Wicks was positioned no higher than fourth on the depth chart, allowing the Packers to consider drafting a new receiver.
The trade provides the Packers with more flexibility to draft a wide receiver and reset their roster with a cheaper rookie contract.
The Green Bay Packers traded wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles, gaining additional draft picks for 2026 and 2027. This move allows the Packers to target a new wide receiver in the upcoming draft while Wicks will have the opportunity to play immediately in Philadelphia.
The Green Bay Packers added a pick in both the 2026 and 2027 drafts and freed up an opportunity to draft a wide receiver when the team agreed to trade veteran receiver Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday. Wicks, a 2023 fifth-round pick, was entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2026 and sat no higher than fourth on the receiver depth chart. This was a mid-offseason opportunity to add much-needed draft capital by thinning an otherwise deep position. And the Packers can now go into the draft with the freedom to take a receiver and reset the clock, adding a cheap, four-year rookie contract to the books while Wicks -- who was likely to depart next offseason -- gets a chance to contribute right away in Philadelphia.
In the aftermath of the trade, here's an updated look at the Packers' draft picks and the wide receiver depth chart entering the 2026 draft pick:
The Packers now have eight total picks, including six on Day 3. Brian Gutekunst still only has three picks in the top 150 selections, but adding a fifth rounder gives the Packers some flexibility in the middle rounds. Even with an extra pick, the Packers still rank 28th in draft capital, per Tankathon. Such is life without a first-round pick. Gutekunst needs to nail his Day 2 picks and find a hit or two on Day 3.
With Romeo Doubs in New England and Wicks in Philadelphia, Watson and Golden will be the expected starter son the perimeter with Reed in the slot. That's a diverse, talent-rich top three with elite potential, especially if Watson stays healthy, Reed bounces back from an injury-plagued 2025 season and Golden takes the expected step in Year 2. Williams, a third rounder in 2025, flashed as a rookie and has rare versatility.
The Packers signed Moore to a one-year deal with $1 million guaranteed in free agency. He needs to earn a roster spot this summer, but he's a good bet to be the primary returner, and the Packers think he has untapped potential as a receiver. There's a chance he'll get some designed touches/YAC opportunities for Matt LaFleur. Melton might have moved to corner in 2025, but he still played all of his snaps at receiver after the transition and remains a trusted and valued player in Green Bay.
There is certainly room for a draft pick here. Melton is a position-versatile player with immense special teams value. Even if Moore makes the team, a rookie draft pick could slide in as a developmental No. 6 option on the 53-man roster. The Packers have only two receivers under contract for 2027 (Golden and Williams), so adding long-term contractual stability at the position is probably a priority entering this draft.
