The Washington Commanders hold the No. 7 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, with expert Jeremy Greene suggesting that the best-case scenario is for running back Jeremiyah Love to be available. Greene believes the team's defense is improving and has a positive outlook for the upcoming season.
So, what does Jeremy Greene (the Draft Nerd) think about the Washington Commanders and the No. 7 pick?
Yes, the Commanders are scheduled to select at No. 7 in the 2026 NFL Draft in 13 days. Greene was a guest on the Grant & Danny show on 106.7 The Fan on Friday, talking, of course, about the upcoming draft.
If you are unfamiliar with Greene, he is very entertaining and works extremely hard on the NFL draft. Greene is always a good listen. He had a lot to say about several players, but for the purposes of this story, I will narrow the focus of what Greene expressed regarding the Commanders and Jeremiyah Love.
When asked the best case scenario for the Commanders? Greene responded, "Your A+ scenario is Jeremiyah Love falls right into your lap." Greene knows how terrible the defense was in 2025, but added, "I like where the defense is headed. The defense is getting younger. I really like the scheme that I believe you are going to see come the fall."
"If it's not Jeremiyah Love, I'm looking at Caleb Downs. That's the best player in the class. So for me, it's Jeremiyah Love, one, Caleb Downs, two." Greene said he is pretty confident Sonny Styles, David Bailey and Arvell Reese will all be gone when the Commanders become on the clock.
How does Greene evaluate the entire draft? "The is the draft of fine. This is IKEA furniture. No one is going to fall through this bed. No one is going to break this table. But it's not special by any stretch."
So, if Love is there at No. 7, why should the Commanders select him? "When you have that guy, Saquon Barkley or Bijan Robinson, which is what I think Love can be, you can have Bill Croskey-Merritt as the RB2. You can have a high-end special teams guy as the RB3, and you have one of the best running back rooms in the league."
I don't have to keep a fourth running back when I have that guy (Barkley, Robinson, Love) because I know that guy is going to get 325 to 350 touches a year. He's the head of the snake. And as long as I've got him, I'm good."
Greene is the cohost of the Sportsocracy podcast with Tank Spencer. Greene has built a reputation for his work on the Senior Bowl and for his work with more prospects each year. Greene is a friend of former Washington Redskins tight end Logan Paulsen. Paulsen speaks highly of Greene's approach and his volume of work each offseason in preparation for the draft.
