Alex Vesia Gets Emotional After Dominant Outing in Front of Wife’s Medical Team

The Los Angeles Dodgers topped the New York Mets 2-1 in a pitchers duel Tuesday night.

While Yoshinobu Yamamoto rightfully got credit for his 7.2 innings of one-run ball, it was reliever Alex Vesia who got the save with three ninth-inning strikeouts on just 10 pitches.

And he did it on a very emotional night.

Tuesday was healthcare night at Dodger Stadium

Vesia’s nearly immaculate inning came on a night in which healthcare professionals were honored, a topic very near to Vesia and his wife, Kayla.

The Vesias lost their daughter, Sterling Sol, during the 2025 World Series run, and to thank those who took care of their family, the Vesias invited a few dozen healthcare workers to take in the game.

After the game, Vesia said Kayla filled him in on the heroes’ ecstatic response.

“They were all in tears, dancing, jumping up and down … Today was the first time I’ve seen pretty much all of them since everything, so it was very special, very emotional,” he said in the locker room.

“Couldn’t have wrote it any better,” Vesia added.

Alex Vesia appreciates the love in LA

After such a difficult end to last season, Vesia has been embraced by Dodgers fans.

On Tuesday night, he spoke with Dodgers Nation’s Noel Sanchez about the support he’s received in the offseason and to start 2026.

“It is truly one of the coolest things when my name’s called on the announcement, my song comes on and just the roar, right? I’m a big adrenaline guy and that adrenaline shock is something that I can’t truly explain, but it is one of the best feelings,” he said.

How is Alex Vesia playing for the Dodgers in 2026?

Vesia has been excellent to start the year, racking up two saves in 7.1 innings of work over eight games.

He’s yet to give up a run, and he has two hits allowed and three walks against nine strikeouts.

Vesia’s advanced statistics back him up, as he’s in the 99th percentile in chase rate, 97th percentile in whiff rate and 94th percentile in average exit velocity.
