Texas A&M defeated Texas 9-8 in Game 1 of the Lone Star Showdown, showcasing strong hitting against a top pitching staff. The Aggies recorded nine runs on seven hits, including a solo home run from Nico Partida.
Texas A&M's lineup proved just how elite it can be against the top pitching staff in the Southeastern Conference so far this season, as the Aggies notched a 9-8 win over the Texas Longhorns in Game 1 of the Lone Star Showdown on Friday night. The Aggies had impressive plate approaches against the league's ERA-leading bullpen, as they recorded nine runs on seven hits with eight RBI and a solo home run from Nico Partida. Texas A&M hitters also drew seven walks in the series opener against Texas. Needless to say, it wasn't the warmest of welcomes back to Bryan-College Station for Texas head coach Jim Schlossnagle. While the Aggie pitching rotation gave up four home runs, including back-to-back solo shots in the top of the ninth, they came in clutch when it mattered the most against a powerful Texas lineup. Left-hander Shane Sdao struck out six and allowed four earned runs in 4.0 innings pitched in his start on the bump, while Ethan Darden and Clayton Freshcorn combined for five strikeouts and helped close out the win for the Maroon and White. That was the best velocity wise that @AggieBaseball LHP Shane Sdao has probably been this year in the first inning. He works around a walk with a pair of strikeouts, the last on a nasty 82 mph CB with SR at 2763. Sdao was up to 94-95 mph with his heater. #MLBDraft@d1baseball

An absolute dogfight at Blue Bell Park tonight as the Aggies hold on to win the opener.
Gavin Grahovac was outstanding, and the Aggie offense scores 9 runs without landing the big blow despite having plenty of chances.
The atmosphere was the best I’ve ever seen in an SEC game

Wrote a little last week about how impressive Nico Partida has been for @AggieBaseball. He obliterates an 84 mph changeup from Ruger Riojas for a solo shot to LF to give the #Aggies a 3-2 lead.
That was 106 mph off the bat, 370.5 feet. @D1Baseball@NCAABaseball
