ESPN's Peter Schrager, who only drops two mock drafts every year using intel gained from teams around the league, released his latest projections.
For the Chargers, Schrager addressed their offensive line need, but went with a player who not only hasn't been mocked to the Bolts but hasn't been slotted in the first round. That player is Clemson's Blake Miller.
Here is why Schrager sent Miller to Los Angeles:
Miller started every single game over his four years with Clemson (54 starts). And for a Chargers offensive line that was ravaged by injuries last season, taking the quintessential iron man of this tackle class at No. 22 makes sense. Miller could provide depth behind Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater, and even slide inside to guard.
The pick of Miller is head-scratching because Miller only played tackle in college and the Chargers have Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt there. Schrager suggests that he could supply depth there with both Slater and Alt returning from their respective injuries. Miller could be a candidate to move inside, which is where they have a hole.
While unlikely, there is a theory that Slater could kick inside to guard, creating an opening at tackle. That's where Miller would slide in.
Nonetheless, it's worth keeping an eye out to see if the Chargers go with this approach when they're on the clock in a couple of weeks.
