Donovan Wilson's departure from the Cowboys seems imminent as his No. 6 jersey has been reassigned to Donovan Ezeiruaku. Additionally, the team is evaluating potential draft picks and considering quarterback options for the future.
When it comes to the half-dozen or so Cowboys free agents who haven't yet been signed by anyone else on the open market, any little nugget can be a hint as to what may be happening behind the scenes. The news that dropped Wednesday regarding seven-year veteran Donovan Wilson would seem pretty definitive. The safety's No. 6 jersey, which he's worn for the past five season, was just given to second-year defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku, likely closing the door on a possible return from Wilson. For Ezeiruaku, it's a reunion with the single-digit number he wore while at Boston College and a hint at just how much the Cowboys are expecting from him in 2026.
Elsewhere in the headlines in Cowboys Nation, Caleb Downs goes under the microscope as a player who could do it all in Christian Parker's defense, a new mock draft sends Akheem Mesidor and Avieon Terrell to Dallas, and we look back at the fortunate confluence of events that led the Cowboys to a young prospect named Dak Prescott as the 135th selection of 2016's draft... despite him being sure he'd end up an Arizona Cardinal. And could Miami's Carson Beck be the next heir apparent to the QB job in Dallas?
In other draft news, ESPN is dishing insider scoop on some of this year's most polarizing prospects, including several who have been linked to the Cowboys. On the topic of love-him-or-hate-him players, Diego Pavia made waves by suggesting he'd work without representation so he wouldn't have to pay agent's fees, but now that appears to not be the case after all. And you should get to know the only FCS player from this year's Senior Bowl... because the Cowboys already have by inviting the super-sleeper for a 30 visit.
Elsewhere around the league, the Texans lock up Will Anderson Jr. and C.J. Stroud with fifth-year options, even though Stroud isn't expected to receive a long-term deal after his 10-turnover postseason. The Falcons lose a 92-game starter on their offensive line earlier than expected, and teams are being told to get ready for replacement refs as time is running out on a new labor deal for officials.
