Elliot Cadeau officially returning to Michigan Basketball next season

The good news keeps coming for the Michigan men’s basketball program after its national championship victory on Monday night, as point guard Elliot Cadeau has officially agreed to a new deal to return to the program next season, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

By agreeing to a new deal with Michigan for 2026-27, this news confirms initial reporting from Chris Balas of the Wolverine ($), that Cadeau had verbally agreed to return to Michigan back on March 28 after the team’s win over Tennessee in the Elite Eight.

Cadeau joined Michigan’s program last offseason after two up-and-down seasons at North Carolina. He was a five-star recruit in the Tar Heels’ 2023 class.

Cadeau has enjoyed a breakout season playing for the eventual national champion Wolverines, even winning the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player award for his performances against Arizona and UConn. As the starting point guard, he logged 27.3 minutes per game, 10.5 points and 5.9 assists per game. His three-point shooting also became a bigger weapon this season, as he currently shooting a career-best 37.6 percent from beyond the arc.

With Cadeau and freshman guard Trey McKenney now both set to return to Michigan, Dusty May and the Wolverines have a starting backcourt that should be one of the best in the Big Ten next season. Supplementing the roster with wings and big men through the transfer portal will be key as Michigan looks to assemble the best team possible for next year. Of course, Aday Mara and Morez Johnson Jr. could return as well, but both also have a chance of going in the first round of the NBA Draft should they choose to go pro.
