"He’s working his way up" – Kovač gives Fabio Silva his vote of confidence
Despite making a slow start to life at Borussia Dortmund, Fabio Silva has been given a vote of confidence by Niko Kovač.
The Westphalians' coach said there will be departures in summer, but it sounded like the Portuguese will not be on the chopping block.
“He's made a good start here at BVB with a win. We're in regular contact. We're trying to find very good solutions, and he's working hard on it,” Kovač said in today's press conference.
“Of course, he hasn’t scored that many goals yet, but that’s due to the number of minutes he’s played. The more minutes he gets, the more chances he has to score.
"He’s working his way up. This shows once again that players need time,” said the Croatian coach. […] For the past three or four weeks, I’ve seen a Fábio in training who has really stepped up his game.
"At the beginning, he lagged behind in terms of confidence and physicality – things you need in a league like this. He used to only come on for short appearances.
“But now he’s getting more and more playing time because I see that he’s made great progress. The impact he’s had has been really good,” Kovač added.
Back in January there were some doubts over Silva's future at BVB after just six months at the club. Now, it seems more likely that Serhou Guirassy could be sold when the season ends.
