Ohio State football will have a record five players attending the NFL draft, matching a previous record held by Alabama and Ohio State itself. The players include Caleb Downs, Arvell Reese, Sonny Styles, Carnell Tate, and Kayden McDonald, with the first four likely to be top 10 picks.
In just a few short weeks, dreams will come true for many college football players as they are selected by one of 32 teams in the upcoming NFL draft. One of the highlights of the draft is the players in the backroom waiting to hear their name called, and when it is, they walk out onto the stage, embrace Roger Goodell, and take pictures with their new team's jersey before being whisked off to meet with team brass.
This year, 16 players have accepted the invitation to be in Pittsburgh for the draft with the chance to hear their name called first-hand. Of those 16 players, five will be from The Ohio State University. Safety Caleb Downs, linebackers Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles, wide receiver Carnell Tate, and defensive tackle Kayden McDonald. The first four names are all but guaranteed to hear their name on Thursday night and very likely in the top 10 picks. McDonald is projected to be a late first-round to early second-round pick. No other school will have more than two players in attendance.
Five players from the same school equals a record previously held by the 2012 Alabama team, as well as the 2016 Ohio State team. OSU also has the chance to join another elite group. The Buckeyes could become only the third program in college football history to have four players drafted in the top 10, joining 1946 Notre Dame and 1967 Michigan State.
