Patrick Reed became one of the few players in Masters Tournament history to log two eagles in the same round of the event, and he did it within the first eight holes of Augusta National's first nine on Thursday, April 9.
Reed took an early lead with a 27-foot eagle putt off the back fringe at the par-5 second hole, dropped a shot behind Kurt Kitayama, then regained the lead when he drained a 56-foot eagle putt at the par-5 eighth to lower his score to 5-under

Reed, the 2018 Masters champion, also birdied the first hole on a 6-foot putt. He parred the par-4 ninth hole after missing a 37-foot birdie attempt and turned with a 31 on the first nine.

Reed has two more chances, at the par-5 13th and 15th holes, to become the second player to make three eagles in a single round at Augusta. Dustin Johnson eagled Nos. 2, 8 and 15 in the third round of the 2015 tournament.
Reed set up his first eagle by splitting the fairway at No. 2, then launching a fairway metal shot 289 yards. The ball bounded onto the green and rolled slightly over the back.
He hit the fairway at No. 8, then muscled a second shot onto the front of the green. He then rolled in his eagle putt to the back hole placement.

Reed was the sixth player in Masters history to begin a first round birdie-eagle. The last were Sam Burns and amateur Sam Benett in 2023, but before that it had not been done since John Schroeder in 1983.
Earlier Thursday, Burns again eagled the second hole in the first round, his third career 3 at the second hole.
