Pau Cubarsi sends a message to fans after red card in Barcelona 0-2 Atletico – ‘I take responsibility’

FC Barcelona find themselves in a difficult position in the UEFA Champions League after losing 2-0 to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.

Despite having started positively and created a plethora of chances, the Blaugrana failed to capitalise and ended up paying the price.

One moment that turned things against them was the red card shown to Pau Cubarsi late in the first half for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity for the visitors.

It left the Blaugrana with ten men on the pitch for the entire second half, and even though they fought hard, it was not to be for them.

Pau Cubarsi owns up to mistake

Following the match, Cubarsi has now taken to social media to send a message to fans, wherein he accepts responsibility for what went down and how that single moment changed the complexion of the game.

“One action determines the match and the tie. That’s football, and I take responsibility for the result,” Cubarsi wrote on Instagram, with images from the game.

At the same time, he conveyed a message of unity and determination as Barcelona target a comeback against Atletico Madrid in the second leg.

“There’s still a long way to go in this two-match tie, and we’re more united than ever: we’re a family and we’ve always shown it,” he wrote.

“Moving forward, with effort and determination, we’ll never give up.”

Cubarsi will not be available for Barcelona for the second leg at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano next week. But he will hope that his teammates overturn the two-goal deficit and secure a spot in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
