For teams in the richest domestic football competition in the world, relegation from the Premier League is a catastrophic outcome that clubs look to avoid at all costs and expense.
Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton going down in 2024/25 meant all three promoted clubs were sent straight back down for a second consecutive season, leading fans to believe that it is harder than ever for smaller clubs to establish themselves in the highest division full of rich and powerful clubs.
The burden, therefore, was on Sunderland, Leeds United, and Burnley to break the trend and find a way to stay up. It appears at least one of them — Sunderland — has established a foothold, while the other two battle the drop.

The real race is for the final relegation place. West Ham occupied the third relegation spot at the start of March, but there are other contenders in Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, and, sensationally, Tottenham.
It's likely this goes right to the wire.

Down in the Championship, Coventry City have opened up a significant lead at the top of the table, gunning for automatic promotion with a five-point lead through 35 games.
Behind them is Middlebrough who are hoping to hang on to the second-place position and secure automatic promotion for themselves, even if the league title is out of reach.
Below the automatic promotion places are those hunting for the playoff positions. Ipswich Town and Millwall lead the pack, with Hull City right behind them. Wrexham have a decent lead in the final position, with Southampton, Derby County, and Watford giving chase.
