Monday’s slate of games had little to no impact on the Philadelphia Flyers’ playoff hopes and dreams. However, over the course of the next two days, there are a combined 14 NHL games, and 4 of them can impact the Flyers’ postseason push.
Since Monday’s games had no impact on the Metropolitan and Eastern Conference races, the standings did not change much. Nonetheless, here is an updated look at the standings as of Tuesday morning.
The Flyers control their own destiny in the playoff race. If they take care of their own business, the rest will take care of itself. But just because they’re in a Metropolitan playoff spot, it does not mean that eyes should not remain on the Wild Card as well.
With 5 games left in the season, a lot can still happen.
So, let’s take a look at the games on Tuesday and Wednesday’s slate and impact the Flyers’ postseason push.

As always, the bolded team is the best-case scenario win.
Tuesday
Lighting (A1, 102) @ Senators (WC2, 90) – 7:00 pm EST
Blue Jackets (WC5, 88) @ Red Wings (WC4, 88) – 7:00 pm EST (End in regulation above all else)
Flyers (M3, 90) @ Devils (WC7, 83) – 7:00 pm EST
Wednesday
Capitals (WC6, 87) @ Maple Leafs (WC8/Elim, 78) – 7:30 pm EST
If the Flyers take care of business on Tuesday, they move to 92 points, extending their lead to 3 points above the Islanders. If the Red Wings beat the Blue Jackets, it becomes a 4-point lead over Columbus in the Metro. If the Blue Jackets win, they stay two points back of the Flyers.
If the Blue Jackets win and the Flyers lose, the Blue Jackets would take over the third metro spot, and the Flyers would fall out of a playoff spot to WC3 due to regulation wins. As long as the Flyers earn a point on Tuesday, their spot is safe.
That is why the Red Wings are the ideal team in that DET vs CBJ matchup. The Flyers have the Red Wings next, so they could make up the points during the very next game. That game needs to end in regulation.
If the Senators beat the Lightning, they could fend off the teams pushing for their playoff spot. In the event that the Red Wings win in regulation and the Senators lose in regulation, Ottawa would still hold the WC2 spot with the regulation wins tie breaker. All the Senators need is a point to keep their spot.
Washington could only catch the Islanders at 89 points. They could not jump into a playoff spot with a win on Wednesday. But, they could make things really interesting if they do join the Isles at 89 points, making it a four-team race between them, the Isles, Blue Jackets, and Flyers for the Metro 3rd spot. A loss would set them pretty far back with only 3 games to play after. All but taking them out of the conversation.
