Texas A&M is 'in the mix' for Georgetown transfer guard

The 2026 college basketball transfer portal is officially open, and after a successful first season under coach Bucky McMillan, Texas A&M is on the right track, having made the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive year. The next challenge will be to build a competitive roster through the portal to replace every departure.

On Tuesday, two key members of McMillan's first roster officially entered the transfer portal, as guards Josh Holloway and Ruben Dominguez, who broke the Aggies' single-game three-point shooting record early in the year, will likely garner a large asking price, while Holloway is looking for more playing time during his final collegiate season.

Needing to land three to four "impact" players from the transfer portal, more size in the front court, paired with a veteran guard that fits McMillan's fast-paced system, will be the primary focus over the next two weeks, as the portal will close on April 21, providing plenty of time for players to enter their names. Within the first 24 hours, Texas A&M has already been associated with multiple names.

According to On3 insider Joe Tipton, former Georgetown guard and El Paso, Texas native KJ Lewis, who averaged 14.9 points and shot 40% from the field last season, is reportedly considering the Aggies among several notable suitors.

"Former Georgetown guard KJ Lewis was an All-Big East selection this season for the Hoyas, averaging nearly 15 PPG. The first school that I was told to watch once he declared his intentions to enter the portal was St. John’s, however, plenty of others will likely be in the mix, like SMU, Texas A&M, and others."

While only a 30% three-point shooter last season, Lewis's ability to drive the paint and provide stability on defense after averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game makes him a perfect fit in McMillan's system, combined with senior guard Marcus Hill, who is expected to return barring any movement concerning his eligibility.
