Real Madrid center-back and Germany international Antonio Rüdiger is never one to mince words and his assessment of what went wrong for his team during its 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League was, well, fairly blunt (as captured by Fabrizio Romano):
🚨 Antonio Rudiger: “We fuc*ed up twice, on both goals. We gave them two gifts”.
“At this level, you can’t keep losing the ball that easily”.
It might have been a little more complicated than that, but the center-back did pack it up neatly. There were breakdowns for both teams defensively, but Bayern Munich was able to capitalize on one more of its chances than Real Madrid.
Next time, it could end up different, but both backlines will be on notice for leg two. As everyone can see, slowing down the respective attacking groups from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid is no easy task.
